Our Story

The Richardsons moved to Ravenhill Farm in 1943 during the war years. John & Jackie are the 3rd generation living and working on the farm.

Originally the farm was a mixed farm with Dairy, Beef, Pigs, Poultry and cereals, these were worked by Shire horses.

We became solely a dairy farm with up to 100 pedigree Holstein Freisan cows at our peak. In the late 1990’s as dairy returns decreased we put in planning permission on The Old Granary which we opening in 2004, this proved to be so popular that we decided to apply to convert the rest of the stone buildings.

The sad decision to sell the dairy herd was made in 2004 and Copper Cottage was then converted followed by the rest of the cottages, completed in 2010.

Being in the national parks there are restrictions but the cottages have been converted to an exception high standard to a 4 * gold standard. They are well equipped so you don’t have to bring so much with you. Many of our cottages are re-booked as they leave as they don’t want to miss out on securing their favourite cottage for the following year, as many of our lovely guests return year after year.

Before You Arrive

We will ensure that your cottage has been thoroughly cleaned, the bed linen will be freshly laundered and the beds will be made up ready for your arrival. We will check that the crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are all present and correct. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask, we will always try to help you.

On arrival we give you a personal welcome and a tour of your cottage. There is tea, coffee, milk, sugar & treats to start your holiday off perfectly . We provide toiletries, dishwasher tablets, washing tablets, all linen and basic cleaning essentials.
